I child of the river
Came to the river that is the road
Lost and confused
Prone to attack from all side
With nothing more than a
sunflower and
a butterfly
in my company
Came to follow the road’s course
Winding and twisting
it’s way through
a desert
an arid space.
I walked into the sun.
I child of the river,
came to the bank
of my mother’s wealth.
The trees,
Wet with her tears, and
the river
rushing and whispering
Sighing and slipping
along
I sang Her name
Shouted my thanks
And I was at peace.
The dust of the road rushed away
The sunflower took root
The butterfly reproduced
Soon I was surrounding by beauty
And my mother’s voice was clear,
And I was at peace.
