I am in a city mine and not mine
I am anonymous
Anonymous and traveled far to be that
I am the city
A place of immigrants all
Even if thousands of years
Separate the migrations of
the children
Our One Great Mother
I am the city
and in it possessed
by it’s spirit
of defiance
dignity
and fight
I am the city
a fighter
a survivor
of battles great and small
City girl I was born
and the rhythm
of asphalt and omnibuses
sirens and tree rustling
embrace me
I am in a city mine and not mine
I am the face of the city
A face among millions
The soul of the place
This city of death and life
culture and ignorance
and the old polarities
of love and hate
day and night
Is my city.
Mine and not mine.
