This was pinched from somewhere and ended up on jazznote’s blog.

It’s well worth repeating.

“Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man’s rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but from his side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved.”

I don’t believe that women came out of a man’s rib. It sounds like shit to me. Have you ever seen a man create a human being in his body? Woman creates life in her body.

However, the quote bears repetition because so many people, do believe that woman came from man’s rib. I like the idea that this associates an over used adage with another idea, a different way of thinking about it.

I want to memorise it, so that the next time a man in Trinidad tells me that ‘woman come from man rib’, I can school him a little using his own faulty analogy turned back on itself. Doesn’t that just sound lovely to you? I love the idea of it. 🙂
