I have, for the last couple of months been slowly building into a frenzy of cleaning. Ordinarily, I don’t ‘do Xmas’. However, as this is the first Xmas Dayo and I will be on our own, I’m really throwing my back into it and applying elbow grease in a methodical way to the entire house.
My son, since December 1st and he realized the supermarket had put up their Xmas decorations, been harassing me several times a day to put up a Xmas tree.
I have been telling him I have to finish cleaning the house, because when I was growing up, putting up a tree in a nasty house was inconcievable. So his constant pressure about the tree has been forcing me to really make the time to do at least one major spot a day. I just have the entryway from the front door, my room and the kitchen floor and the fridge to do. Thankfully my room will take just a short time, but I am dreading the kitchen floor.
It is quite therapeutic, and it’s been a while since I deep cleaned, but it has the odd effect on me in that I am really, really looking forward to putting up the tree. I decided to do what I did in my early 20s, which is make my own tree from cherry tree branches. One of my partners in the neighborhood brought me some good branches, so now my inspiration for tackling the kitchen floor almost has me to the point where I must, I must!
My child is so excited about Xmas… Although I don’t believe in the Christian holiday, this time of the year is traditionally the ‘clean the house’ and celebrate time, so in the spirit of Kwanzaa I am making an effort for the boy. I want him to have a good Xmas, and as long as he’s happy, I’m happy.
